FAQ | Limited Editions

time to share ...

After more than 20 years of photographic work, selling to local collectors and business, I decided it was time to share my images with a wider audience.  For the first time, these images are for sale online.  I have kept to my tradition of using archival quality fine art papers and inks so that you have the same collectible images that a limited group of others previously enjoyed.

I am slowly adding images to the store ensuring the files are ready for larger sized prints and in the process will be selecting some new images for release as limited editions.  The limited runs will be printed in only one size, depending on the image, a choice of two archival papers, and hand signed and numbered in archival ink by me.  Each image will be accompanied by a certificate with care instructions. Once gone, these hand signed prints will not be offered again.

For a truly unique and collectible piece of fine art, look for the limited editions. There will also be smaller un-numbered prints available with my printed signature that can be purchased with or without a frame.  If metal or acrylic styles interest you, these are available for all unsigned images.

Consider signing up for my newsletter (Coffee Talk) where I always announce limited editions prior to the general public! See the frequently asked questions about limited edition prints below.

FAQ'S ABOUT LIMITED EDITIONS

See our Frequently Asked Questions about open edition prints.

WHAT MAKES LIMITED EDITIONS SPECIAL?

Limited edition prints are handcrafted, hand signed and numbered 1 - 25 by me. When the last print has been sold, they will not be offered again.  Limited editions are sold in number order beginning with number one based on the date and time stamp of the order.

WHAT QUANTITY OF A LIMITED EDITION IS AVAILABLE?

There are only 25 prints available for each image.  Once gone, these hand-signed prints will not be offered again.

WHAT SIZE ARE LIMITED EDITIONS?

Limited edition prints are either 13 x 19 inches (Super B) or 17 x 22 inches (ANSI C) depending on the specific image.  Each limited edition contains the size in the description so that it is clear what size is available.

what paper is used for my limited edition print?

In short, yes, Limited Edition Prints have two choices of paper.  Each paper is a different fine art style. David offers both a Baryta paper and Smooth paper so you may customize your uniquely numbered print.  One paper looks more like a traditional photographic paper, and the other a museum fine art paper.

Baryta Semi-Gloss Paper - A heavy weight acid-free paper with a semi-gloss coating and a 100% barium sulfate layer enabling images that are like traditional darkroom prints.  This paper has a very high D-Max with deep blacks and bright whites providing exceptional contrast and detail.

Smooth Fine Art Paper - A heavy weight acid free 100% cotton museum grade fine art paper with no optical brighteners to degrade over time and a very smooth surface used for traditional museum fine art prints.  This paper has a incredible tonal range for rag-type papers and has an extremely long archival life.

WHY ARE LIMITED EDITIONS SO EXPENSIVE?

These are the most desirable prints and are often collected because only 25 will be created, signed and numbered for each image released.  Ever.  Other prints may be signed using different papers and sizes, but none will be certified as a limited edition and numbered except for the images available here.  In addition, the price of limited edition prints increases at certain milestones.  So, a limited edition with 5 sold is more expensive than one just released with none sold.

Are shipping costs free for limited editions?

In the continental United States, shipping costs for Limited Editions are free.  For locations outside the continental United States, contact us so that we can provide you with a shipping cost.  Like the Open Editions, all custom and duty fees and taxes are the buyer's responsibility for international shipments.

ARE THE LIMITED EDITIONS SIGNED BY THE ARTIST?

Limited edition prints contain David's hand written signature in the archival ink on the bottom right, below the image.  Not other prints contain a hand written signature.

WHAT ELSE DOES A LIMITED EDITION COME WITH?

A certificate of authenticity, signed by David, along with care instructions will be included with every limited edition purchase.  This will ensure your print is considered authentic and part of the limited run.

ARE LIMITED EDITIONS AVAILABLE FRAMED?

No.  Limited editions are sold only as a print.  You may frame and display your limited edition in any way you wish.

WILL LIMITED EDITIONS LAST?

Yes.  David only uses archival quality fine art paper with archival printing inks so that your limited edition should last over 100 years (according to Wilhelm research based on paper and inks used, and only if properly stored and cared for).  Moisture, finger prints, poor framing, UV light and other things can destroy any archival print such that it will not last that long.  We suggest you frame your limited edition print to protect it or store it in an archival manner.

how long does it take to receive my limited edition?

Because each Limited Edition print is customized on your choice of papers, David will print your Limited Edition after your order is received.  After printing, the paper is dried to reduce outgassing and ensure the print is archival.  Then the print is inspected and signed, before shipping.  The process from order through production and delivery to you can take from 6 to 12 days depending on location.  You will receive tracking information as soon as your Limited Edition is shipped. Please contact us with any questions.

COVID-19 UPDATE:  production and delivery times are lengthened during this period due to vendor delays in receiving papers and inks and delays in delivery services such as Federal Express and UPS.  The delay may add between 5 and 15 days from your order date to your receipt.  We will update you as your limited edition order progresses.  Contact Us with any questions.

HOW DO I CONTACT SUPPORT?

If you have questions about your limited edition print, feel free to contact David and he will work with you.

WHAT IS THE RETURN POLICY FOR LIMITED EDITIONS?

Due to the limited nature and collectibility of limited edition prints, returns are not available.  However, refunds or replacements are available if the print is damaged in shipping and handling.  Exchanges are also available if the exchanged limited print still has availability.  To request a replacement, contact David.  We will provide you with a return shipping label and you will be required to return the damaged print prior to processing the refund, replacement or exchange.  See our Return, Replacement and Exchange Policy for more information.
